Fall 2020 One Room Challenge x High Point Market: Week 3

While so many of my counterparts have been physically hanging out at High Point Market, I've been taking advantage of all the resources available to me right here on these inter webs. But let's back this train up and get you caught up on a few basics...

What is High Point Market?

It's the largest home industry event — like our fashion week — that happens twice a year, just like the ORC.

With everything going on, I chose to miss this season but that didn't mean I couldn't do some window shopping. With so many digital tools, virtual showrooms, and just good old fashioned catalogs, I was able to see so many of the new releases and trends that were on display this season...inspiring much of designs.

Being that this is a virtual project, I decided that instead of just tackling some of the rooms in this trip level home, why not try my hand at the entire "must be nice" level. In addition to the media room, shared study, and outdoor living area, I decided why not take on the other two other rooms down there — the laundry room and powder room.

P.S. in case you're wondering — this design is 100% based on a real house from one the listings we've been browsing as we explore home ownership. The lower level features a bonus room, the laundry, and a 2-piece bath. The owners then did an extension, allowing for a 2nd bonus area, which then opens up to a stunning outdoor space.

Like I said — an entire "must be nice" level.

I'll be honest — I've never specified product from Market for spaces like a bathroom or laundry room, but I was down to take on the challenge. Shopping market is NOT like shopping regular retailers — there are A LOT of vendors to sort through! — so I had to find ways to simplify the process. Just like I do when online shopping, I turned to vendors that I was already familiar with that I knew would satisfy the vision I had in my head — whether it was for their aesthetic or very specific product types.

I went room by room — kinda — starting out with marquee items, but also allowing myself to wander on the sites, especially when it came to accessories.

For example, I knew that in the media room I wanted the space to be a darker palette with some lighter hues for contrast, feature different materials & textures, and absolutely had to have a power reclining sofa — it is basically a mini movie theater!

The shared study, on the other hand, would be lighter and brighter, with more glam elements and a ton of storage for everything from books to crafts.

Totally inspired by my own virtual show house design — also with High Point Market — I decided the outdoor space should have an air of indoor hygge, with natural materials, neutral hues, and all the texture my heart can handle.

The laundry room and half bath have been the most challenging... but not impossible. Recalling one of my last visits to market, I remembered that Worlds Away has stunning bathroom vanities so that has been a great starting point. Just like all the other spaces knowing who I can turn to for what has saved me so much time and allowed me to streamline this entire process, just as I would for a real life project.

Who have been some of my go to vendors so far?

Thibaut and Fabricut for fabric. Universal Furniture & Abbyson for furnishings. Hudson Valley Lighting Group for lighting. Loloi for rugs -- indoor and outdoor. Made Goods & Lloyd Flanders for outdoor furnishings. ABC Home & Global Views for decor.

Why these vendors? Aside from the categories I mentioned, many of them have ready to ship items as well as custom options...the best of both worlds!

Outside of the High Point Market vendors, I'm probably going to have to explore some of my fav direct to consumer retailers... but I'll keep you guys posted over on IG stories -- when I know, you'll know!
